Beat It

I was a co-producer for three years of the Pizza Hut All-Star Softball Classics.  The event was in February before Spring Training and featured the game’s biggest stars playing softball.  We added features and frivolity to create a one hour NBC Pre Season Special.  The weekend was held at the Longboat Key Club in Sarasota, Florida.  We needed aerial images and shot them before the game with a helicopter.  This was before cell phones (1985), and our crew had no way to contact me.  Joe Garagiola was interviewing Lonnie Smith about his recent drug relapse – sensitive stuff – while the helicopter kept buzzing the field. :54
